On a vote of 26 to 9 the South Dakota Senate approved SB 24 which will extend the effective date of the state law regarding the recreational use of non meandered waters. Speaking in favor of the legislation was Senator Gary Cammack of Union Center who says the law tackles the age old problem of recreation versus respect and landowner rights.
Senator Alan Solano of Rapid City is hopeful the extension will help.
Senator Stace Nelson of opposed the bill saying it ignores the importance of private property rights.
