The Watertown round-about is slated for highway 81 and 20th avenue South is still on schedule with the South Dakota Department of Transportation and is scheduled to go to bid sometime soon.  Watertown Mayor Sarah Caron expects the state to award a contract soon with the work then moved next to the construction phase.

The mayhor says the roundabouts are safer than other types of intersections and that’s one of the reasons engineers like them.  She admits they don’t eliminate accidents, but do reduce the severity.  Mayor Caron says that, because both vehicles are going in the same direction that fewer serious accidents are reported.
