A ribbon cutting, grand opening and open house gets underway at 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon in Webster in celebration of the new high school manufacturing and construction programs at Lake Region Business Center in Webster. Melissa Waldner is with the Webster Area Development Corporation.

She said the classes are new opportunities for Day County students to be college and career-ready and add to the growing career and technical education program at the Webster Area School District.

The new construction and manufacturing classes add to other CTE classes already offered including: Agriculture, Human Services Technology, Hospitality, Tourism and Health Sciences.

Waldner says the new program, classroom and shop were made possible through partnerships.

The new programs being added include manufacturing and construction.

She says anyone in the public that would like to attend is welcome. They want to be a model for other small communities that might be in the same situation they are where it’s just not feasible to send kids to Watertown or Aberdeen or even Britain and Sisseton. Those areas involve an hour’s drive and that’s why they’ve opted to start it up there.  The open house will begin at 1 p.m.
