After several years of legislative debate, and months of rulemaking, an effort to set up natural resource districts appears to be over. The River Basin Natural Resource District Advisory Task Force was created to oversee the process. Jay Gilbertson, Manager of the East Dakota Water Development District in Brookings had been appointed to the task force this year, but says it appears to be for nothing.

The task force had previously met, and worked through rules, and election boundaries for the new districts.  Gilbertson says that is all gone now.

Gilbertson says they natural resource districts never found a home.

Gilbertson says water development districts can manage most of the issues meant for the natural resource districts.
