South Dakota Municipal Utilities Department head Steve Lehner says they’re still investigating what happened, but that it appears lightning is the cause of an early morning electrical outage in north Watertown. The primary problem was located at an downtown substation across from County Fair Foods.

At midmorning only a couple of blocks in Northwest Watertown were still without power. For most residents the power was out for approximately one hour this morning. He says when they make repairs during an outage that crews have to manually reroute the power.

Everyone is expected to have power restored today.
