A concurrent resolution promoted by State Senator Jim Bolin that discourages teenage consumption of drugs, alcohol and tobacco received unanimous approval in the Senate Commerce and Energy Committee this morning.  The resolution states that tobacco, alcohol and other drug marketing have no place in the lives of the children of South Dakota. Matt Walz, who is with the South Dakota Alcohol Policy Alliance, testified before the committee Tuesday morning in support Resolution 1008.

State Senator Neal Tapio of Watertown, who has taken a specific interest in the drug abuse issue, says the nation is in the midst of a drug epidemic.  He supported the resolution, but stated it didn’t go far enough to address the problem of drug use.

The resolution doesn’t have the force of law, but did pass out of committee unanimously without opposition from either the committee or those testifying.
