One of the items on the Codington County Commissioners agenda this morning was the resignation of Codington County States Attorney Patrick McCann. McCann will be taking on a new position within the state’s judiciary as a magistrate judge in the Third Circuit at Brookings. HIs last day is Wednesday as Codington County states attorne, leaving open the position in Codington County. County Auditor Cindy Brugman talked with KXLG news about the next move for the county.
With regret the Codington County Commissioners today accepted the resignation of States Attorney Patrick McCann. McCann said he was stepping down to accept a new position as a Magistrate Judge in Brookings County in the third judicial circuit
McCann recommended that Rebecca Morlock-Reeves serve as the interim states attorney to serve out McCann’s term until the next election next year.
The salary for Morlock-Reeves will be 87,500, which is the same salary at which McCann begin his first year as States Attorney when he took over the position and which is below the lowest step for states attorney. However, being it’s an appointed position at the current time, he felt that was appropriate. Once elected, McCann began at the lowest step for states attorney. Commissioner Troy VanDusen spoke for the other commissioners.
