A Codington County Deputy Sheriff who was injured while conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by 19 year old Jacob Engelhart is expected to return to work Friday.   Codington County Sheriff Brad Howell says that Engelhart attempted to flee near the 1400 block of Highway 20 after the deputy began a narcotics investigation.  During a struggle the deputy was dragged by the vehicle while he attempted to apprehend Engelhart.  Engelhart lost control of the vehicle which went off the road striking a street sign.  Engelhart then fled on foot.  Howell talked with KXLG News about last weekend’s incident.

During the scuffle Engelhart hid outside a nearby residence.  He was arrested without further incident with a substantial amount of marijuana, THC Hash, and other paraphernaliaa was recovered.  Engelhart is charged with Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement, Aggravated Eluding in a Motor Vehicle, Intent to Distribute Marijuana, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.  The case has been handed over to the Watertown Police Department and South Dakota DCI.  Engelhart is expected to make a court appearance Friday morning.
