Members of the Government Operations and Audit Committee of the South Dakota legislature held several hours of debate last week over the GEAR UP grant program, and how to avoid future issues. GEAR UP was at the heart of problems associated with the now dissolved Mid Central Educational Cooperative. Committee member, Senator Billie Sutton of Burke says he will introduce some bills dealing with how long to keep financial records.
Sutton says they don’t have the records to track the beginning of issues with the GEAR UP program.
Sutton says they need to keep pushing on the issus. Several other legislators on the committee have said they will have bill proposals for the 2018 session.
