Members of the Boys and Girls Club board and past members who helped the club develop over the years lifted their sledge hammers yesterday in celebration of the new renovations that will be getting underway at the facility that’s located adjacent to the Watertown High School. Watertown Boys and Girls Club Director Liz Christianson says a wall breaking was more appropriate than a ground breaking because the club improvements will entail remodeling the existing campus.

Christianson says the building will include a new front entrance with stairs, a new waiting area, commercial kitchen with large dining room that can serve upwards of 100,000 meals a year.

She says the club has been packing boxes and readying for their move to the Garfield Elementary School ahead of the new building project.

The major donors were also thanked at yesterday’s event.

The new renovated club is expected to open in the fall of 2018.
